Using a tale as a parable, the best-selling author of Why Men Hate Going to Church shows men what the map--hidden in the gospel of Matthew--looks like and how to walk its three ancient pathways today: submission, strength and sacrifice. Original.

Publishers Description

A map, written in code and hidden in the gospel of Matthew, reveals a truth so explosive it could rock the foundations of Christianity--or lead to its rebirth.

A cleric appears out of the rain-spattered darkness, bearing a mysterious message: A long-lost map with the power to transform men is on the verge of being discovered. Thrown headlong into a global chase, author David Murrow must race to find the map before it falls into the wrong hands and disappears forever.

"The Map, which " begins as an action thriller and then transitions into a modern-day parable, reveals the path every great man - including Christ himself - has walked.

In this dynamic follow-up to the best-selling "Why Men Hate Going to Church," Murrow cleverly translates the masculine spiritual life into an actual, ink-on-paper map. Then he shows men where to find the map in the New Testament and how to walk its ancient paths today.

Marvelous Mystery and Magnificent Meditation  Jan 5, 2010

"The Map" is a surprise, it is a book in two parts. Although I only expected a spiritual book of instructions or meditations, it is also a marvelous mystery story.

In part I on the book, David Murrow is contacted by a Welsh Vicar named Benson. Benson asks him to meet with an old priest who knows of a guide to Christian manhood. Part I of "The Map" describes David Murrow's search for that blueprint.

The mystery is very suspenseful and exciting. As David begins his search for documents that might reveal the very ancient "way" or map, he becomes aware of forces that intend to block his search and impede his activities. On several occasions during the search, David narrowly evades the enemy and becomes increasingly nervous and almost paranoid. Murrow knows that the opponents represent evil, but has very few clues to identify of his enemy. He does, however, become increasingly aware that the world needs this map.

The missing map may solve a serious problem in the western church. In countries like the British Isles, over the years men have ceased to function in the church. Men have decided that the church is too feminine, too meek and weak, and hence not a place for "real" men.

In Part II of "The Map", having narrated the mystery, Murrow takes us on a journey through scripture. He analyzes several Biblical heroes, such as Paul, and Moses and relates their stories to the map. He explains the concepts behind the map using many scriptural verses. He provides detailed instructions for using the map with numerous examples and stories to illustrate his points.

Overall, "The Map" is an excellent book. The mystery is plausible and exciting. The concept of teaching Christianity through a mystery story is extremely effective. The later explanation of the mystery is exacting and detailed. Murrow provides many scriptural references and wonderful stories to support his teaching.

I highly recommend reading this interesting and intriguing book.
Let the revolution begin!  Jan 4, 2010
For the countless Men who have become "lost" in church and in life; this book by the author of "Why men hate going to church" could spark the next great revolution, not just in Men's Ministry but possibly lead to a reformation of the Body of Christ itself. That may seem like a staggering claim but that's because you haven't had a chance to read "The Map - The Way of All Great Men".
The first part reads like a Dan Brown type thriller and grabs the attention of the reader from the first page with mysterious encounters, international intrigue and shadowy figures all contributing to the excitement and suspense - very important if you want your book to be read by men. Using this fictional yet gripping approach sets up the reader to be instructed in how to follow the "map"!
It's premise is simple - There is a map, embedded in the Gospel of Matthew, that not only reveals the process that Jesus' life and ministry followed but reveals the key to success in life for all men. David Murrow who among other things, has worked for Sarah Palin, and heads a ministry called the Church for Men, then dissects the three journeys every great man must make through submission, strength and sacrifice and offers practical and down to earth strategies for integrating these ideas into their life. I found this book both readable and rewarding. It certainly invites a paradigm shift in any conscientious reader. For those already familiar with John Eldredge (Wild At Heart) or Stu Weber (Tender Warrior), they will appreciate this book greatly. Unlike many christian books that simply revisit familiar themes - this book I believe charts new territory. That in and of itself would not be noteworthy - many 'heretics' have done so - what makes this book so revelatory is that I believe that what Mr Murrow has uncovered is entirely biblical and therefore extremely important.
I predict that this book will cause quite a stir in ministry circles. It has already stirred my heart and got me thinking in new ways. It has been quite a while since a book has done that. Therefore I encourage you to pick up a copy as soon as it hits your bookstore shelf and then watch the revolution begin.
