Reviews - What do our customers think?
Pleasantly surprised  Jan 8, 2010
This is a great little bedtime book for little ones that I usually go to after our "story".

Illustrations are interesting enough to keep their attention, (for the small ones) and for my 5 yr old, who is just starting to be interested in abstract ideas of spirituality, it's great for prayer starters and discussing basic Christian principles.

The format allows for open discussion and questions from both kids (mostly the older one, as my 3 yr old is not quite there yet)

I think the author did a very good job of creating a "prayer book" that is not overbearing (lots on the market that are that way), but still clear enough to convey the complex relationship between God and man. It's a fine line that I have yet to see anyone do as well in this space.

Great job, highly recommended, 4 stars from me.

Really love this book for my child  Jan 7, 2010
I like this book, "Bedtime Prayers" because it has religious themes that are important to our family, however they are presented in a softer, more kid friendly way, changing a few of the words to more everyday language without diminishing its message. For example, the book often refers to God as "shepherd". Its those changes that makes it read a little more like a regular kid book, but maintaining the Christian message and keeping it understandable.

Did I mention it is also a very pretty book, with nice illustrations and well-made, thick and sturdy pages? I'm really pleased with this book.

A sweet prayer book for the preschooler  Jan 6, 2010
Really Woolly Bedtime Prayers, a board book aimed at toddlers and preschool children, is a wonderful book to teach youngsters about the Lord's love, caring, and forgiveness. The 40-page book is just the right size to be carried by little hands and is sure to become a favorite prayer book.

Every two-page spread has the same layout. The theme of each spread appears at the top of the left page (the Shepherd listens, loves, smiles, watches, etc.), followed by a very short Bible quote. (Most Scripture quotes are from "The Holy Bible, International Children's Bible," with a few exceptions which are noted.) The rest of the left page is devoted to a prayer. Every prayer rhymes and they are short enough to hold the attention of busy little minds.

I give God all my worries;
He takes away my fear.

I call on Him when I'm afraid,
Because He's always near.

I ask, and He protects me.
My dreams are gently blessed.

I know He loves me very much -
Because He cares the best.

Each right-facing page has a very brief "Dear God" prayer (Dear God, thank you for taking care of me all through the night) along with a very charming illustration. In fact, the really woolly lambs and their forest friends are a huge draw. It is hard not to fall in love with their antics throughout this book. Because there is no particular order to the prayers, little ones can flip through to a favorite picture for that night's prayer.

Quill says: If you're looking for a starter prayer book for a preschooler, you'd be hard pressed to find a better book than Really Woolly Bedtime Prayers.

An excellent and adorable book for the kids!  Jan 5, 2010
My daughter who is four years old LOVES this book! She adores it! She loves the illustrations and what it teaches.

The book is about teaching and introducing the young children how to pray. It focuses on the "Shepherd/sheep" relationship between God and His people (in this case, children). It teaches about Shepherd's love, care, protection, kindness, affection, and delight for the sheep. This reinforces the truth that they (the kids) are being loved and protected by loving Shepherd.

And every lesson, there is a sample prayer called, "prayer starter" (1 sentence) for the kids to follow thus instilling the habit of prayer in the light of Shepherd/sheep analogy. Very, very helpful.

So overall:
1. The book's illustration is superb. It is simple but very cute and adorable, rich in color.
2. The hardcover book is sturdy and well glued to the spine. Each page is thick (cardboard thickness), like many other children's book.
3. Each lesson begins with a verse and the descriptive rhyme (i.e., "The Shepherd listens when I pray, To each and every word I say.")
4. My kids love this book and they love to follow the prayer in the book.

Highly recommended!

Cute story book, more depth than average board book  Jan 4, 2010
This board book is aimed at children in the 4 and under set. It has short Bible verse paraphrases (from The Holy Bible, International Children's Bible), a rhyming explanation of the verse, a short one sentence prayer starter, and adorable illustrations of a fluffy white lamb and friends. The text is in no way tied to bedtime only, and it's appropriate anytime. Little ones will learn that God hears their prayers, loves them, is always with them, protects them, teaches them, guides them, etc..

These are valuable story books to read in lieu of the typical board book fluff out there, and they are a helpful *starting point* for spiritual lessons for children, but once you get to the age of 2, you really need to be adding some additional explanation and examples.

The reasons I gave the book a 4-star rating instead of a 5-star. I would have preferred the verses to come from a real Bible, like the New King James, instead of from a children's paraphrased version. It's the word of God that is powerful, not our summaries of it. I'd rather have the actual verse, and then allow the book text and the parents to explain further.

In the text, more often that not God is referred to as "The Shepherd" instead of as God or the Lord, and sometimes He's only referred to that way. I think the constant reference to "The Shepherd" is potentially confusing to the very young target age. After all, most of the time they will hear adults talking about God or the Lord, even when talking to them. I'll make sure when reading this to say something like, "The Shepherd, God" or maybe just even substitute "God."

Also, in one devotional, a blessing is defined as "something that brings you joy" with a list of material items. Though there is the aside that "often it will teach you too," the focus is very much on material things. We should be thankful for our physical blessings, but children have trouble recognizing blessings that aren't toys and such. We very much try to emphasize with our children that there are many Christians that do not have many of the things we do, and that the greatest blessings are not "stuff." I would like to have seen this supported with some remarks about us being blessed by having our needs met (instead of just mentioning our wants), by salvation, by the lessons taught etc.

All in all, I'd rather sit down and read this to my little ones than the average board book, and it will be part of our storytime reading. However, for our devotions with our children, even the young ones, we'll go to the Word of God directly as our starting point.
