Item Description... Overview Suggests that the liberal media saw Sarah Palin's strength and popularity as a threat and set out to destroy her through rumors and distortions, but that despite these attacks she will continue to rise within the Republican party.
Publishers Description After her dazzling convention speech in August 2008, Sarah Palin was on track to win John McCain the presidency of the United States. Never before had a vice presidential candidate gotten such a strong response. Then Katie Couric and Tina Fey came along...
Sarah Palin spent more than a decade making her town and her state better-she slashed government spending and corruption and encouraged economic growth. In 2008, she took to the national stage to bring her successful vision to the entire country. America quickly embraced her message, and Palin became the hottest rising star the country had seen in years.
Palin was a strong and popular conservative with traditional values-work, family, and religion-and Washington Democrats and their allies in the so-called mainstream media decided she had to be destroyed. These elite liberals attacked everything from Palin's clothing to her parenting style to her church. They spread one malicious and untrue rumor after another, including claims that Palin:
* Had been a member of the separatist Alaskan Independence Party (New York Times)
* Had been a supporter of Pat Buchanan (MSNBC)
* Fakes giving birth to Trig Palin, who was supposedly her grandson (Atlantic Monthly)
In addition to spreading lies and distortions, the media treated Palin with such insulting condescension that it frequently lapsed into mockery. Palin was routinely ridiculed and vilified-and so was her family.
The liberal media did not succeed in one way: It was able to give the election to Barack Obama, a man with dangerous and radical ideas. However, despite the media's disdain, Palin persevered and remains one of the most important figures in the Republican Party. Because she speaks for Main Street America on issues from energy to health care, her star will only continue to rise. |

 | Not quite as bad as I thought it would be, actually better then Palin's book Dec 9, 2009 |
Do you remember the time on Keith Olbermann when he asked where was the birth certificate on Palin being born in the US and not Ireland? What, you never heard that? No birther movement for Palin to prove that she is not a citizen of Ireland? No? Well, how about the time when Sarah Palin was accused of denying her actual religious beliefs and of being a secret Hindu who wants to impose Hinduism on America? Nope, well so much much for "persecution." Obama of course has been called a secret Muslim from Kenya but I guess she is the one being "persecuted."
The author's defense of Palin's belief in witches (yes, she believes in witches) and her video apperance with a witchdoctor proves this, is that Democrats who are Catholic believe in a church where there still are arachic beliefs in the devil/ possession. In particular he mentions VP Joe Biden. Yes, Biden is a Catholic but I am glad he isn't as close to literalism (though Palin isn't quite a literalist) as Palin. Let's face it, nobody truly follows the bible 100% as literal, even Pat Roberston or Jerry Falwell before he died. They would look like liberal progressive Christians if they went back in time to the 13th century. So would Palin. So, since moving away from biblical literaism is a long and good tradition in the West I would rather have politicans farther along in this tradition, such as Biden over Palin. The author states that Palin did not censor any book and that is true. But there are at least a few witnesses that testify she asked about how to remove library books and the head librarian (Mary Ellen Emmons) was later fired by Palin and then rehired after public pressure. No mention of this fact in the book.
Lastly, Sarah Palin is the real "chosen one", not Obama. While segements of America do love Obama, it pales in comparision to the views of the hard right when it comes to Palin. She is viewed in a way that I believe is even beyond that of Ronald Reagan, by the rightwing. | | | | 5 stars Dec 8, 2009 |
| Interesting read. It's evident that Governor Palin put a lot of thought and effort into this book. Great Christmas Gift for conservatives and liberals alike. | | | | I expected a better presentation of facts already in evidence Dec 3, 2009 |
Maybe it is because I was very familiar with the fact presented within but I found Matthew Continetti's volume on the subject just tedious.
Continetti faithfully follows the media's path and determination to bring down Sarah Palin all the way up to her use of facebook to respond to the President's current policies. It details attacks in both regular media and electronic media and the blogs showing what people were saying and where it went wrong.
If you are a Palin fan who wasn't on the net the book might have value in the sense that you will see the source of some of the media's attacks but if you were on the net it will be a handy guide to what was said...
...or it would be if he had listed the links used as footnotes on the pages or even a back page at the end containing them.
Like Going Rogue: An American Life there is no index. Unlike Going Rogue I suspect it isn't a clever trick to force the media to read his book. I suspect it was a question of finishing the book quick so it could be released at the same time to boost sales.
It worked with me, I bought the book to make the $25 for free shipping with my Going Rogue: An American Life order. I think I would have been better off with an extra copy of Palin's own book or maybe War on the Run: The Epic Story of Robert Rogers and the Conquest of America's First Frontier.
As a money making enterprise and as information on the attacks on Sarah Palin this book is going to work. As a interesting, relevant and readable volume, not so much. | | | | The press is guilty as charged Nov 30, 2009 |
I felt rather ill as I read this book. The whole premise behind it is that it exposes various media assaults made on Palin during the campaign and after. Everything about her was shredded, diced and minced. NOBODY would look good under that kind of negative scrutiny. Her looks, family, religion, residence, job performance, speech, dress-everything was ridiculed without mercy. This book takes actual quotes from a variety of newspapers, blogs, TV shows etc. There have been Palin Porno movies, Palin sex dolls, saying she is NOT a woman (??), false pregnancy assertions, false affair assertions etc. You name it. It is fine not to like her or vote for her, but why be so incredibly nasty?
I think sticking to the facts is what most people really want in a journalist. The over-the-top, wild, overboard journalism demonstrated here will eventually backfire. There needs to be some responsibility in this field; it has gone too far.
I still think the reasonable facts about Palin will keep me from voting for her unless she digs in and does her homework and gets more experience. But in the future if the press start to malign any candidate the way they have Palin, I will deliberately try my best to support the candidate. | | | | Inspirational hero over all these years Nov 26, 2009 |
