Item Description... Overview A 20th anniversary edition of the best-selling account of an infamous 1988 deal involving Wall Street's largest takeover is complemented by an extensive afterword that reveals the takeover's legacy and what has become of its contributors and companies. Reprint. 15,000 first printing.
Publishers Description
The fight to control RJR Nabisco during October and November of 1988 was more than just the largest takeover in Wall Street history. Marked by brazen displays of ego not seen in American business for decades, it became the high point of a new gilded age, and its repercussions are still being felt. The ultimate story of greed and glory, Barbarians at the Gate is the gripping account of these two frenzied months, of deal makers and publicity flaks, of an old-line industrial powerhouse that became the victim of the ruthless and rapacious style of finance in the 1980s. Written with the bravado of a novel and researched with the diligence of a sweeping cultural history, here is the unforgettable story of the takeover in all its brutality. |

Reviews - What do our customers think?
 | A great naration of WallStreet of the '80s Feb 3, 2010 |
| Wow, I am forever fascinated by financial history. This is behind the scenes tale of some of the leveraged buyouts of the 80s. It's a book along the lines of Michael Lewis's book called Liar's Poker, another great book. I figure this book will appeal to "finance" types, whether you are trader or into business finance. After reading the book, I realized just how much is generally known by the public whenever mergers and acquisitions are announced. It's a fascinating book that I truly enjoyed. | | | | Great Book Dec 28, 2009 |
Many people might not be interested in a book about a leveraged buyout, however, this book reads like a thriller with more interesting characters than I've encountered in countless fiction books. This book is enjoyable from start to finish and offers and insider's view into a whole different world. This is not only the best business book I've read, but one of the best books overall.
