Item Description... Overview Presents lighthearted coverage of the trends, sociopolitical factors, and notable athletes that influence professional basketball today.
Publishers Description
The indispensible, amazingly illustrated companion to today's NBA—a roundball Rosetta Stone that hilariously decodes the trends and tendencies of pro basketball. The NBA of the moment is a league of hugely charismatic celebrities, crackling aesthetic intrigue, sociopolitical undercurrents, and raw humanity: every Kobe Bryant pump-fake or LeBron James dunk holds within it a Shaq-size load of meaning. The Macro-Phenomenal NBA Almanac is a one-of-a-kind guide to this tumultuous and exciting league. In a series of brilliantly illustrated chapters—from Master Builders like Tim Duncan to Destiny's Kids like Amare Stoudemire to Lost Souls like Lamar Odom—the almanac breaks down the styles of the NBA's most colorful characters, showing what each one reveals through his play and conduct, both on the court and off. Filled with some of the smartest, funniest sportswriting known to fankind, this book will cast an entirely new light on one of our favorite games. |

 | Exactly what a basketball stat freak needs! Jul 9, 2009 |
| This was the exact book I was looking for to give to my cousin! He is a basketball freak and loves stats! This is the perfect book for someone like him who needs something to do over the summer rather than watching dvr'ed basketball games! | | | | Fun Times Apr 18, 2009 |
| If you're a nerd who likes the NBA (like myself), then this is the book for you. Philosophical, esoteric and funny, the almanac has it all. With beautiful, original pictures, the Almanac muses on stars, scapegoats, basketball tragedies, and quirky peacocks in an altogether unique way. Casual fans may find it fun, but be prepared to think a little. Lots of fun. | | | | A Basketball Lover's Dream Mar 16, 2009 |
This is every basketball lover's dream. Having loved the sport as long as I can remember, this is definitely a must-have for fellow fans. It breaks down players, stats, and the styles of today's game. It has clever illustrations and descriptions, and each page has something completely different. In about 10 years, when these guys start to retire from the L, this will be a great book to show the younger generation about the basketball we know today, which, in turn, is different from generations past. There is so much interesting information and the way it is broken down is on the cutting-edge--from the breakdown of Tim Duncan and LeBron James to Isaiah Rider's job application (which is very funny) and Marbury Parcheesi. I wouldn't do it justice trying to describe how it's done, so please pick up this book and add it to your collection. It is very reasonably priced and could have been sold for much more. Every time I open it, I learn something new about this wonderful sport, and you will too.

| perfect for any nba fan willing/wanting to go a little deeper. there's a copy of this on god's coffee table. | | | | Nothing new here. Mar 2, 2009 |
| My fiancee bought this book for me for Christmas. I was skeptical but she went on and on about how highly recommended it came, both from people she knew as well as here on this site. I'm a big sports fan, in particular basketball, so I gave it a shot. I just couldn't get into it. First off, most of the information was nothing new. Anyone who's watched SportsCenter regularly for the last ten or so years won't find much interesting or novel here. The author profiles big name players using unique descriptions, but most of it is just a summary of each player's career. And unlike some of the other reviewers, I could not care less about the art work, what animal the author thinks each player is, or a step-by-step guide showing the player's best move. The only thing I found to be interesting were a handful of stats and select commentary (mainly about the 2000 draft), but it's certainly not worth $25 or however much it's going for. Save your money and read up online. | | | Write your own review about FreeDarko presents The Macrophenomenal Pro Basketball Almanac: Styles, Stats, and Stars in Today's Game
